I listened to a bunch of Elvis tribute artists and Doors cover bands when I was writing the manuscript for Elvis Sightings. I did find a bunch of very cool music. On the Elvis side, Nine Inch Elvis was a winner. For The Doors, this particular album, Darken My Fire, was pretty spectacular.
One song in particular, Peace Frog as done by Mephisto Waltz, was transformational for me. I had to go back and listen to the original again. When I did, I heard the song in a different light. It’s become my favorite Doors song now.
If you’re interested in something a little different, Darken My Fire is billed as a Gothic tribute to The Doors. That’s almost accurate, there’s some industrial and straight up rock and roll in there too. If highly recommend it.
